I am bad at YouTube • Why my booktube show is so small you ask?

This is the story of a girl who was not that good at youtube, and when she was bad, she was horrid…

(We will be back to normal booktube by Sunday with a look at new horror books coming out in September.)

Rachel from the Shades of Orange had a brilliant idea with this tag. I may not do many tags, but she does even less! I not only had a laugh with some parts of her video, but she had me nodding in agreement, or yelling at clouds as the topic can be subtly dramatic for me. Just when I thought I was over it, Olly did this over at CriminOlly and it was also a very good video. Again, subtly dramatic for me! They are both very good YouTubers with very good channels. Want to see an actual bad booktuber? Well step right up!

Maybe this was somewhat based on Daniel Greene’s The Worst BookTuber on Youtube, but I didn’t finish watching his video for whatever reason.

Probably because I too, am a bad booktuber…

  1. I’m obviously a bad booktuber since after a decade I have under 5,000 subscribers and have no idea if that is normal or not
  2. I am a terrible booktuber since I keep experimenting. Changing lights, camera, sound, tactics, thumbnails, the algorithm has no idea what my channel is.
  3. I am a wretched booktuber because I am not a beardy hipster guy that looks good in plaid, nor am I a pierced red lipsticked twenty-something. I rarely ever talk about politics and my pronouns are not my personality.
  4. I am an awful booktuber because I am stepping away from social media. I usually only go on Twitter for traffic updates, and it is very rare that my show is discovered outside of Youtube or my blog. It is too much like work.
  5. I am the worst booktuber because I love Amazon. There I said it. I am Lydia Peever and I am of sound mind. That book in my Amazon cart is the one I want, you asked me, I’m answering, Yes, I love that Amazon of mine. I have a Bookshop link – no one uses it. My own books are on Amazon. I do not blame them for the lull physical bookstores had – I blame larger bookstores.
  6. I am an ineffective youtuber not because I ignore my metrics but because I do pay very close attention, try to make sense of them and actively use the story the numbers are telling me— and it makes no difference
  7. I am an abhorrent youtuber due to vanity. If I don’t feel like putting on makeup I don’t record. If my hair looks bad I edit it. I’ve deleted videos where I didn’t look my best. I am literally rerecording this video because my hair looked bad. Do I envy those who can record in a hoodie or tshirt with no makeup? Only for time management reasons! We do what works for us, and feeling presentable works for me over being just barely presentable.
  8. I am a horrific booktuber since I only read horror. I could turn into a variety reader and chase popular series, read only manga, get into politically charged YA reviews or slam reviews, but I – like every other channel I watch and love – read what I want to.

I talk horror books; extreme horror, classic, slasher, gothic, and everything in between. Helping you find the next best horror book to read is the goal, and sharing new and old horror from my shelves and new releases is how! Horror, nonfiction and even true crime can be found here as I find that human beings are the scariest thing of all.
