As noted elsewhere online, the creators of the cover for Phalanx, this old SNES game wanted to have a ‘huh’ moment with the cover. They wanted shoppers to stop and try to figure out what was going on here.
Now, marketing basics and graphic design savvy aside, the image CERTAINLY had a ‘huh’ moment going for it. It had Bertil Valley, otherwise known as Phalanx Guy going for it.
One evening we were talking about this image and game marketing and maybe, just maybe, this image would have ‘helped out’ other games. Maybe ‘Phalanx Guy’ was just what some underappreciated titles needed. Or maybe what most titles didn’t need at all, but either way, I was honing my skills in as a recently promoted photo editor and decided to see how that warped reality panned out. So here we are, Phalanx Guy:
